There’s something about September evenings that makes me want to slow everything down. The light fades earlier, the air feels cooler, and suddenly the thought of a cosy night in feels like the most comforting thing in the world.
For me, hygge isn’t about grand gestures; it’s about those small rituals that help you unwind after the bustle of the day. A candle flickering, a warm drink in hand, and a few simple steps that transform an ordinary evening into something that feels like a little gift to yourself.
Here’s my go-to autumn evening ritual:
1. Light a Candle & Set the Scene
As soon as I get home, I pop on my Cosy Night In candle. The blend of bergamot, lavender, and lemongrass instantly softens the atmosphere and helps me let go of the day. The warm glow and natural scent feel like a signal to slow down.
2. Run a Comforting Bath
There’s nothing quite like a warm bath when the nights turn cooler. I add a handful of our Hygge Bath Soak, with cedarwood, cinnamon, and lavender. The steam carries the scent through the room, and it’s like wrapping yourself in a soft blanket from the inside out.
3. Slip Into Your Softest Pyjamas
Nothing says “cosy” quite like fresh pyjamas. I always keep a favourite pair, the softer the better, for evenings when I really need to feel comforted. It’s a little detail that makes such a difference.
4. Make a Simple Hot Drink
A hot cup of tea before bed feels grounding. Sometimes it’s a camomile blend, other nights a spiced chai or hot chocolate. Holding a warm mug in your hands is a hygge ritual all on its own.
5. Moisturise with Something Seasonal
Afterwards, I use our Pumpkin Spice Body Butter; rich shea and kokum butters with cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg. It melts into the skin, leaving you soft and nourished, and the scent feels like autumn bottled.
6. Warm Up With a Hot Water Bottle
On cooler evenings, I’ll tuck a hot water bottle under the blanket. There’s something so nostalgic and comforting about it, like being cocooned in warmth.
7. Read a Few Pages
I keep a book by my bed and try to read even just a few pages. It’s a gentle way to transition into sleep without screens and helps my mind settle.
8. A Soothing Final Touch
Before bed, I roll our Sweet Dreams pulse point roll-on onto my wrists and temples. With lavender and camomile, it’s the last step that helps me drift into a deeper, calmer sleep.
This ritual isn’t complicated. It doesn’t need hours. It’s simply about carving out a pocket of time, switching off, and reminding yourself that you deserve to rest. That, to me, is hygge; making the everyday feel special.
If you’d like to bring a little of this ritual into your own evenings, you can find everything I’ve mentioned here on the website: [shop link]
So tonight, why not set aside your phone, light a candle, pull on your softest pyjamas, and let September’s slower pace guide you into the cosiest season of the year?
