Creating Achievable New Year’s Resolutions

We can all be overambitious and set unrealistic goals once the new year arrives. However, hygge is about contentment and embracing a slower pace of life. As 64% of people abandon their New Year’s resolutions within January, it seems a new approach is needed.

One simple way to welcome more hygge into your life is to note four or five relaxed days or cosy moments you’d like to experience. Why not record them in our hand-drawn hygge notebook? Describing these experiences in rich detail and trying an idea each week can help you embrace a more hygge lifestyle.

 Hygge-friendly resolutions include:

  • Spending time with friends over coffee and something sweet you’ve baked
  • Dedicating time to enjoy that book you’ve been meaning to read
  • Listening to your favourite playlist whilst wrapped in a warm pure wool blanket.

Try not to feel disappointed if life gets in the way. There’s always another opportunity to hygge waiting around the corner.

Enjoying Nature with Loved Ones

Spring may be a few weeks away, but that shouldn’t stop you from embracing the great outdoors. Beaches, fields or mountains. Whatever your local area has to offer, spending more time with cherished friends and family in nature can restore your sense of self. Hygge is the calm after the festive storm and should include the “complete absence of anything annoying or emotionally overwhelming” according to Helen Russell, author of The Year of Living Danishly.

Nyhavn

Danish people are captivated by natural light as they experience long dark winters. They also prioritise a sense of belonging. It may be chilly out there, but experiencing the warmth of friendship on a meander through nature contributes towards a hygge lifestyle. This is one core meaning of hygge.

So grab your wellies whilst it is light. Make a reusable travel mug of warming tea and keep your feet snuggled in supersoft Scandi Sherpa socks. Remember to point out the different colours, sounds and shapes you encounter on your walk. Nature remains beautiful at this time of year.
