How to Hygge: Spotting the First Signs of Spring 2023

This week, during our morning walks to school, we have started to feel and see the changing season. Lovers of hygge tend to enjoy the winter season, as we can happily stay indoors and embrace cosiness, but we cannot deny that the first signs of spring bring an equally excited feeling as the warmth of the sun touches our faces and we spot the snowdrops dotting up on our daily walk. Springtime 2023 in the UK is officially between March 20th and June 21st.

Spring is the season of renewal and rejuvenation, and it's one of the most anticipated times of the year. After a long, cold winter, the first signs of spring bring a welcome change and promise of warm weather to come. Whether you're a nature lover or just enjoy the changing seasons, here are some of the first signs of spring that you should look out for:

Melting Snow and Frost: As the temperature begins to rise, the snow begins to melt, revealing the dormant grass and soil underneath. This is a sure sign that spring is on its way.

Buds on trees symbolise the beginning of spring, signaling a renewal of life and a return to growth. As temperatures warm, the buds begin to swell and eventually burst open, revealing the bright green leaves or fragrant flowers that are the hallmark of spring. The sight of buds on trees is a source of inspiration for many people, reminding them of the beauty and resilience of nature, and filling them with a sense of anticipation for the months ahead.

The chirping of birds is one of the most joyous sounds of spring, signaling the return of warmer weather and the arrival of new life. As the sun rises and the air warms, birds of all shapes and sizes fill the sky with their cheerful songs, announcing the start of a new day and bringing a sense of peace and happiness to those who hear them. Whether you are a seasoned birdwatcher or simply enjoy the sound of birdsong, the chirping of birds is a beloved springtime tradition that brings joy.

Springtime flowers are a colourful and fragrant symbol of renewal and growth. As the winter ends and the weather warms, fields and gardens burst into life with an array of vibrant blooms: delicate cherry blossoms, cheerful daffodils, fragrant lilacs, and many others, each adding its own unique beauty to the landscape. The sight and smell of these flowers not only brings joy to the senses but also provides a crucial source of food for pollinators, such as bees and butterflies. Flowers are a cherished reminder of the beauty and vitality of the natural world.
Seed balls are a simpler way to grow wildflowers that help garden wildlife. No digging is required and you don't need to be an expert. Throw onto soil or compost in a garden bed or planter in Spring. The warmer temperatures bring new opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, gardening, and picnicking, and provide a chance to recharge and connect with nature.
