Yesterday morning, I wandered into the garden with a pair of scissors and a basket to cut some lavender.

Most of it will be hung up to dry ready to use in future Eva Carys Botanica products, but I always keep a few fresh sprigs aside while it's in flower. Those end up tucked inside the Hygge at Home gift boxes that leave the workshop over the next few days.

It probably adds a few extra minutes to packing each order.

Nobody would complain if it wasn't there.

But I still do it.

I think that's because Hygge at Home has never really been about putting products into a box.

It's about creating a feeling.

When someone opens one of our gift boxes, I want there to be that little moment where everything slows down. Before they've even looked properly at what's inside, I hope they notice the scent of the lavender, the pine cone infused with one of our own essential oil blends and the handwritten gift message waiting for them.

Those are the things that make it feel personal.

When I first started Hygge at Home nearly seven years ago, I never imagined we'd one day be packing orders from St Helena Cottage. Back then I simply wanted to create gifts that felt thoughtful, gifts that said, "I'm thinking of you," in a way that couldn't always be expressed in words.

That idea hasn't changed.

If anything, moving here has made me appreciate it even more.

There's something rather lovely about walking into the garden to pick lavender that will be in someone's gift box a few hours later. Many of the products inside are handmade here too as part of my Eva Carys Botanica collection, so every order really does carry a little piece of St Helena Cottage with it.

I'm often asked what makes Hygge at Home different from other gift companies.

The honest answer is that it probably isn't one big thing.

It's all the little things added together.

It's choosing products that I'd genuinely be happy to receive myself.

It's handwriting every gift message instead of printing it.

It's wrapping every order by hand.

It's using seeded paper that can be planted instead of thrown away.

It's adding a pine cone scented with one of our own essential oil blends because opening a gift should delight more than one of your senses.

Individually, none of those things are particularly remarkable.

Together, I hope they create something that feels memorable.

Running a small business means there are always bigger jobs waiting. There are websites to update, stock to order, emails to answer and accounts to do. It would certainly be quicker if I skipped some of those finishing touches.

But I don't think I'd enjoy running the business nearly as much.

Those quiet moments: cutting lavender in the garden, pouring candles, writing someone's gift message, are some of my favourite parts of the week. They remind me why I started Hygge at Home in the first place.

I suppose that's what this business has always been about.

Not rushing.

Not doing more.

Just taking a little extra care over the things that matter.

Because, more often than not, it's the little things people remember long after the gift has been opened.
